Student Code of Conduct
PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS AND CODE OF CONDUCT
By participating in an ArchaeoPlus (A+) Field School, you automatically assume the role of a representative of A+. It is imperative that you strictly adhere to our Code of Conduct, as outlined below. Familiarize yourself with these guidelines before attending any of our programs.
DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS
Participants are susceptible to disciplinary action for various forms of misconduct, including but not limited to:
Disruption of A+ activities, including teaching, research, and administration.
Physical abuse, threats of violence, sexual assault, or any conduct endangering the well-being of individuals on A+ property or during official A+ functions.
Disorderly conduct, failure to comply with directives from A+ employees or field school staff, and disturbing the peace.
Unlawful use, possession, sale, distribution, or manufacture of controlled substances on A+ properties or during official A+ field activities.
Unauthorized trading, selling, or removal of material culture from sites is strictly prohibited.
Uncontrolled excavation is considered looting and may lead to prosecution.
Dishonesty, including cheating, plagiarism, multiple submissions, or providing false information to A+.
Forgery, alteration, or misuse of A+ documents, data, or identification.
Theft, damage, or destruction of A+ or others' property on A+ premises or provided by the program.
Failure to pay bills for extra services or incidentals associated with the program.
Unauthorized entry or use of A+ properties, equipment, or resources worldwide.
FIELD SCHOOL AND LOCAL COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Field schools are deeply integrated into local communities, relying on their support for research permits and community consent. Student behavior jeopardizing this balance will not be tolerated and may result in immediate removal.
EXPULSION AND REFUND POLICY
Students in violation of the Code of Conduct may be expelled at the instructor's discretion. Expelled students are ineligible for fee refunds and barred from participating in any program activities, including travel, meals, academic credit, and housing. Additional costs for lodging and transportation post-expulsion are the student's responsibility.
ALCOHOL POLICY
In the United States, the legal age for alcohol consumption is 21. Disruptive alcohol consumption leading to program disturbances may result in immediate expulsion. If choosing to drink, do so responsibly.
ANTI-RETALIATION POLICY
A+ strictly prohibits retaliation against any participant making a good-faith complaint or assisting in an investigation. Participants must feel comfortable reporting illegal or unethical conduct without fear of reprisal.
REPORTING VIOLATIONS
If you believe you've experienced retaliation or witnessed policy violations, promptly notify ArchaeoPlus and/or your field school director.
REMEDY AND JURISDICTION
Violations may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of participation or employment. The relationship between you and ArchaeoPlus is governed by the laws of the State of Alabama, with jurisdiction in Madison County, AL. You and ArchaeoPlus agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the local courts.
